  1. Q: What is a Business License?

    A:
    Every company/person doing business or based in the City of Rialto is required to have a business license. A business license is a fee assessed for the privilege of doing business in the City.

  2. Q: Who needs a Business License?

    A:
    Anyone conducting business in the City of Rialto is required to pay for a City business license. This includes out-of-town delivery vehicles, servicemen, and contractors. Anyone with an office for a business in a home is also required to pay a license fee.

  3. Q: How much does a Business License cost?

    A:

    The City of Rialto's business license fee is generally based upon the gross receipts. The rate at which a business pays depends on the type of business that you engage in.  Gross receipts licenses are paid per each $1,000 of gross sales per year, plus a $36 base fee. There is a minimum business license fee that is required for each license.

    Note: Some business activities have special rules that may apply. Call the Business License office at (909) 820-2517 to determine if you must comply with other special licensing and to determine the appropriate fees that must be paid,

  4. Q: When am I expected to pay?

    A:
    Fees must be paid in advance and prior to the date you commence your business. Business licenses are renewed annually and generally expire on December 31st of each year.

  5. Q: Can I transfer my License to a new owner?

    A:
    Business Licenses are not transferable. If you sell your business, it is your responsibility to notify our office so your license may be closed. The new owner must apply for a new license in his/her name.

  6. Q: What if I do not get a business license?

    A:
    Failure to get a business license prior to starting your business may result in administrative penalties of up to 50% plus the amount of your business license fees that would have been assessed for up to three years.

  7. Q: How do I renew my license?

    A:
    In the City of Rialto all business licenses expire on December 31st.  All business owners will receive a renewal application in the mail.  Simply mail back the application with your fee, gross receipts information and any new contact information.  If the business in no longer in operation please indicate that on the Renewal Application and mail only the Application.
